  • Postpartum OCD is a form of anxiety that involves intrusive thoughts and compulsive behaviors.

These thoughts are unwanted, distressing, and often focused on harm coming to your baby—even though you would never want that to happen.

The key difference is the cycle:

    • Intrusive thought → anxiety → compulsion (checking, avoiding, reassurance) → temporary relief → repeat

Postpartum OCD is highly treatable with the right kind of support, and having these thoughts does not mean you are dangerous or unfit as a parent.

  • Intrusive thoughts are actually very common during the postpartum period.

For some women, these thoughts pass quickly. For others, they become more frequent, intense, or distressing, especially when paired with anxiety or OCD.

If your thoughts feel sticky, upsetting, or are changing your behavior, therapy can help you understand what’s happening and feel more in control again. You can reach us anytime via our contact page or email. We aim to respond quickly—usually within one business day.
